STROKES COURSES

Student/Instructor Ratio: Courses will be taught on a 1-to-2 instructor per 6-to-8 student ratio; classes will be split up based on number of registrants per class. Rolling classes are 1-to-1 or 1-to-2 student/instructor ratio. The class schedule shown below is only a draft, and will be modified based on registration requests.

Intro to Greenland Paddling (GP): For those new to paddling, this course will cover the core paddling strokes (forward, sweep, etc.) and basics of boat handling (posture, edging, etc).

Forward Stroke Refinement: For those who have been paddling awhile and want to refine their forward stroke, or for experienced “Euro” paddlers looking for an introduction to Greenland Paddling. Course breaks down the forward stroke into components of torso rotation, plant, power and exit phases and emphasizes differences between Euro and Greenland paddling.

Maneuvering Strokes: People taking this course should be comfortable with their basic strokes (forward and turning), and want to learn (or refine) the draw-to-the-hip, sculling draw, bow rudder, stern rudder, edging and bracing.

Rescues and Towing: This course is for those who may or may not know rescues, but want to learn how to adapt those rescue skills to skin-on-frame boats, and techniques for towing a skin-on-frame boat.

Specialized Strokes: This course will cover racing strokes, sliding strokes and techniques used in hunting (silent strokes).

ROLLING COURSES

The following rolling courses are specific to type and level of rolling, based on skills.

Intro to Rolling: For those who have never rolled and want to learn this skill for the first time. In addition to rolling we will cover the balance brace.

Layback and Forward Finishing (FF) Rolls: For those who have a roll that isn’t always reliable, want to refine their first roll, or want to add to an existing roll. Class will be divided between Layback and Forward Finishing rolls depending on skills.

Norsaq and Hand Roll: For those with reliable layback and forward rolls who are ready to learn the Norsaq and/or hand roll.

Competition Rolls: For those who know the basic layback and forward-finishing rolls who want to expand their range to include specific rolls used in Greenland rolling competitions.

Bombproof Roll Refinement: For those who have a dependable roll but want to make it "bombproof" by reinforcing it with different body positions, longer underwater times, or awkward paddle handling.
